In my part of South Australia tomorrow, it's going to be a hot day. This means our dogs will spend almost all of the day inside, where it's lovely and cool, and where there's plenty of water to drink.
We live in the Mallala district, 60 km or so from the capital city, Adelaide. The forecast for tomorrow, which I saw on the ABC news a few minutes ago, showed a forecast high of 37 degrees celsius. That's too hot for me to be outside, and too hot for the dogs to be outside too!
When you have a dog, it's your responsible to make sure it has shelter from weather extremes. This means hot sun, strong winds and heavy rain. You wouldn't want to be stuck outside in those conditions, and you shouldn't make your dog stay out either.
Hot dogs are not happy dogs, that's for sure!

Weather Extremes - Remember Your Pet!
When the weather is too terrible for you to go or stay outside, don't forget your pet. Most pets can suffer too, when Nature gives us extreme weather.
At the moment, South Australia, where I live, has a forecast of 39 degrees celsius, with rain expected in the afternoon and evening. 39 degrees celsius is 102 Fahrenheit, that's too hot for me and for my dogs! So at the moment, I'm staying inside, and so are the four dogs.
Our other pets are goldfish. They live in a deep pond outside, with shade. If it's too hot for them at the top of their pond, they have plenty of cool water further down. I know they'll be fine out there. Some fish aren't so lucky, if your fish are in the sunshine on a very hot day, and they're in a shallow pond, it can get extremely dangerous for them.
Pet owners must realise the responsibilities they take on, when they get a pet. If my dogs were outside, and they didn't have shade and water available, it could become life threatening for them. I'm a responsible pet owner who cares, so I keep my dogs inside where it's cool, and I make sure they have water to drink if they want it.

Hot Day Again Today
Today in South Australia we're having 40 temperatures again. The people in the house are staying inside, apart from visits to the swimming pool as needed.
And the dogs? The dogs are all staying inside, and loving it. We have our evaporative cooler going and the dogs have water available in the house if they need it.
I hope nobody is stupid to leave any dogs inside their cars today. The temperature inside a parked car can go from OK to lethal more quickly than many people realise.
If you have a dog and it's outside, why not bring it inside with you? It's the kindest thing to do. The same goes for the opposite weather extreme. Dogs may be better off than humans outside in freezing weather, but still, if it's too cold for you, maybe it's too cold for your dog as well.
When we bring a dog into our life, we have a commitment to bring that dog fully into our life. Your dog loves you unconditionally. Do you love your dog that much too?

Can you believe the Adelaide weather? Hot, hot, hot!
Forty degrees plus for three days so far, with no real end in sight! It's been so hot, the rail tracks buckled on one of the train lines into Adelaide. Can you believe it?
The dogs and I have spent most of our time inside today, doing not much apart from trying to get cool. I feel so sorry for any pets that couldn't find a cool spot somewhere inside today. That sun is cruel. I feel sorry for any creature, or person who couldn't find somewhere cool today.
We had power outages in many parts of Adelaide today, with load shedding going on for much of the day. Sometimes I'm even more glad I live in the country!
I heard someone on the ABC radio today talking about livestock being transported in this sort of weather, stacked 4 levels high, with no shade for those of the top level. I was on my way into Gawler when I heard it, and I kept an eye out. I didn't see a single transport truck at all. I'm hoping they all stayed home, leaving it to a cooler day.
Of course if stock is being transported somewhere, they're quite likely on their final journey, with death the result, but even so, they shouldn't have to suffer. I do eat meat, but I'd rather eat meat that hasn't been cruelly treated if that's possible without making it too expensive. It's so much easier to have and hold onto your morals when you're not financially troubled.
That's a cop out of course, and I'm ashamed of what I wrote, but deleting it would be dishonest.
